Turmeric for the Immune System: How Can It Help?

Within the natural and holistic community, several plants and herbs have been used to bolster the immune system and prevent health issues such as the common cold and flu.

For the past two decades, studies have shown that curcumin found in turmeric acts as an immunomodulatory agent–a chemical which modifies the function and response of the immune system [1].

Whether you’re suffering from chronic joint pain, allergy symptoms, or the common cold, let’s dig deeper into why you should use turmeric for your immune system.

Is Turmeric Good For Your Immune System?

What makes turmeric so special? As mentioned above, curcumin (its most active compound) has been scientifically-proven to be a potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiviral

While turmeric and its most potent component curcumin have long been studied for their anti-inflammatory benefits, there is increasing evidence that this herb has an impact on the immune system as well.

As mentioned above, curcumin can help modulate the activation of cells found in the immune system. These cells, also known as lymphocytes (T cells, B cells, natural killer cells), as well as macrophages, and neutrophils, defend our body from viruses, bacteria and foreign bodies

Curcumin also boosts the functionality of the molecule known as Cathelicidin. This antimicrobial peptide helps identify and eradicate bacteria and other unfamiliar external agents that could otherwise negatively affect the human body. By increasing the activity of this molecule, the body’s immune system can defend itself properly against bacterial, viral and fungal infections [3].

However, it should be noted that curcumin is not a solution to a weakened immune system. Eating a healthy diet, reducing stress and gaining adequate sleep are all crucial in supporting the overall balance of your immune system.

You can also strengthen your immune system by:

  • Exercising regularly
  • Quitting smoking
  • Drinking in moderation
  • Washing hands

Our immune system is our body’s natural defense system. By not taking care of it (and allowing viruses and bacteria to enter), there are several serious issues that can develop, many of which cause inflammation.

Inflammation and the Immune System

Inflammation is the direct response of our immune system repairing damaged cells, as well as defending itself from irritants, pathogens and more.

When our immune system is weak, inflammation can appear in various forms such as:

  • Chronic joint pain
  • Allergy symptoms
  • Chronic breathing
  • Immune related disorders

Aside from maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle, turmeric can be taken in supplemental form to reduce inflammation, as well as diminish the risk of less threatening ailments such as the common cold or flu.

Turmeric Immune System Supplements

Here at Fusionary Formulas, we wholeheartedly believe in a well balanced, healthy lifestyle in addition to supplementation for inflammation and immune support.

Our Immune Booster supplement was specifically formulated to help strengthen your immune system, as well as your intestinal and digestive functions.

Similarly to curcumin, bromelain (as found within our Immune Booster supplement) has anti-inflammatory properties.

As mentioned previously, gaining adequate sleep is crucial in strengthening one’s immune system. If you’re suffering from insomnia or lack of sleep, we suggest our Deep Sleep supplement which blends circumin, magnesium and melatonin to optimize deep REM sleep

Lastly, to prevent inflammation and promote general well being, we always suggest supplementing with a high-quality, maximal absorption turmeric supplement, like Turmeric Gold

Not only does this supplement promote healthy functioning of various organs like the brain, heart, and liver, but it can also help reduce the free radical damage of healthy cells, therefore keeping the immune system intact and the body free from inflammation.
